The tasting was on Tuesday, June 21.
Our summer season kicks off with an in-person tasting that offers a postcard-sized glimpse into the region we’re exploring for the first half of SUMMER VACATION(S).
THE PLACE
We’ll meet around the country table OSTUDIO, a wine bar, café, and creative working space on the border of Bushwick and Bed-Stuy. My friend & former colleague Rachel Brady Grace has put together a beautiful little beverage program there to accompany the rotating chef residencies and thoughtful food, and I’ve been helping her out on odd nights over the last few weeks. It’s a perfect space to taste.
THE WINES
I’ve grabbed a couple of wines I love from the remote class kit lineups, but mostly we’ll be tasting bottles in too short supply for me to ship. (The downside: you don’t get to keep the rest of the bottle for yourself!) The goal is to give a snapshot of the ways I’ve gotten excited about this sprawling, complicated place: cava grapes being reclaimed for still wine; the rise of the Roussillon on the other side of the mountains; the many shades of grenache.
THE BOTTOM LINE
We’ll taste six wines from across Catalunya’s spectrum of possibilities, plus a surprise food pairing. Tickets are $66, inclusive of tax & gratuity, and seating is limited to ten people. The class will start at 6:30pm and end sometime between 7:30 and 8pm. Afterwards, you’re welcome to hang out for dinner and sample the menu from resident chef Woldy Reyes.
